If only to avoid being called a hypocrite, I just want to explain the choices @SookieStack_SVM and I made when we moved forward with our current  story line. I love doing research and did a great deal of it when Sookie and I decided that we would try to have a child. We didn’t want to do it by magic or break the rules as set by Charlaine Harris. If we could not have found a real life scientific solution, we would not have proceeded with our SL. I was fortunate enough to find several experiments and treatments that could apply to our situation. In the end, I chose an infertility treatment using stem cells to generate sperm. Thinking there would be a need to keep the sperm alive, I added an anti-rejection drug infused with a trace of silver. My fictional doctors hoped this would be enough to suppress Eric’s vampirism until his sperm could become viable and collected for fertilization.  The drug worked but brought with it low-grade silver poisoning that made Eric’s skin sallow and left him lethargic.

The rest of Eric and Sookie’s medical treatment has been standard IVF procedure. Now that Eric is off the anti-rejection drug, he will return to his normal vampire self and there is no chance of getting Sookie pregnant the old fashioned way.  So, as you can see, a great deal of thought has gone into our SL.  We’ve spent months getting to the current point in our story and it will continue for many months to come.  Will they be successful? That’s up in the air. Will it be interesting? Sookie and I certainly hope so.
